About Sarah DeMille

The Sarah DeMille Scholarship was set up in remembrance of Sarah Ashley DeMille, a 2005 graduate of SMCHS and lady Eagle runner. Sarah was killed in an automobile accident while attending Northern Arizona University. She had volunteered to accompany a friend driving a fellow NAU student home for the weekend so the driver would not have to make the long trip on mountain roads back to NAU alone. The student driving the car lost control while trying to avoid hitting a deer.

The idea for the scholarship and the initial donation to the fund was made possible by Applied Medical. Sarah had worked at Applied Medical for two summers as an intern. Sarah was a true SMCHS lady runner. She loved to run. She loved her team and the ability to make each athlete believe it was all about your personal best. The recipient of the scholarship award is chosen based on the values and attributes of the ideal SMCHS lady runner. The cross country coaches make their selection based on these criteria.
